Earlier today, I was at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, meeting with Jewish students to show my support against the rise of antisemitism on college campuses. As a former student body president of UIUC, I find it paramount that our students, not only at UIUC but across the country, feel unthreatened for who they are.

According to the Anti-Defamation League, since the October 7th Hamas attacks in Israel, antisemitic incidents have spiked by a record 361%. Rhetoric chanted by protesters, such as “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” negates the rich and deep history the Jewish people lay claim to the land where Israel now stands.

In partnership with State Representative Dan Didech and Tracy Katz Muhl, we had the opportunity to meet with the University of Illinois President, Timothy L. Killeen and Chancellor, Robert J. Jones, to discuss what leadership will do to maintain order while protests continue on campus. I commend UIUC in its efforts to be vigilant in working to maintain peace on college campuses and doing everything in its power to keep our Jewish students safe during this difficult time.

I will continue to fight and advocate for our students’ safety and will not quit until antisemitism is eradicated from campuses nationwide.

In solidarity and peace with our students,
